ATSSB Bass Clarinet Recordings Are Now Available!
This year's technical ATSSB bass clarinet etude (Year E) is number two from The Advanced Studies from the Works of Julius Weissenborn adapted by William E. Rhoads. The suggested tempo for this study is listed at dotted quarter = 60 so I strived to keep the tempo within that realm, it could certainly go faster if you so desire. There are two known misprints in this work: The first one, line 3, measure 4, the 3rd note G should be an A. For the Second misprint: line 3, measure 5, 3rd note F should be an E.
The lyrical ATSSB bass and contrabass clarinet etude is number eight from the same book and the suggested tempo is quarter note = 112-126. It's important to sub divide throughout so that the dotted eighth sixteenth does not accidentally turn into a triplet pattern. Since it is marked "Marcia-Risoluto" at the beginning, I have chosen to keep it slightly lifted for the opening and ending to emulate the march style. Be sure to note the piano dolce section in the middle and keep this sweeter and more connected until the recap. Have fun and happy practicing!
